Vorlesung

Für meine Vorlesung (Sommersemester 97)

Algebraische Methoden der Quantentheorie

habe ich eine Infoseite eingerichtet. Auf der auch der aktuelle Stand des Skriptes zu finden ist.

(Infos about a lecture I will give at the TU-Berlin in the summer term. Only for students and only in German!)

Research

My current research interests are centered around classical and quantum field theory on curved space-times. Actually I am working on a project about observers in algebraic quantum field theory. The aim is to get a better understanding of the relations between space-time geometry, classical field equations and quantum field theories. Due to the limited capabilities of current web clients to display formulas I will refer for further details to my papers. Some of them you can download if you click on an icon in the following list. (This is a table! If you are using an old web browser you may have problems.)

M. Keyl, Causal spaces, causal complements and their relations to quantum field theory, Rev. Math. Phys. 8, 229-270 (1996)
In this paper the question is analyzed, how it is possible to reconstruct classical space-time from the net of local observables of a quantum field theory. To this end different aspects of space-time structure are considered separately. Special attention is drawn to the topological and the causal structure of space-time. Within the scope of causality the differences between causal spaces introduced by Kronheimer and Penrose and causal disjointness relations used in algebraic quantum field theory are considered. Finally we show that the free scalar field on a globally hyperbolic space-time is a special example for our scheme, even if the corresponding Klein-Gordon operator is a Huygens operator.

M. Keyl, Quantum field theory and the geometric structure of Kaluza Klein space-time, submitted to Class. Quant. Grav.
In this paper quantum fields on Kaluza-Klein space-times are analysed. The dimensional reduced theories are constructed and the question is considered whether the extended space-time can be reconstructed from them.

M. Keyl, On causal compatibility of quantum field theories and space-times, submitted to Commun. Math. Phys.
In Rev. Math. Phys. 8, 229-270 (1996) the notion of causal compatibility is introduced as a method to determine the conformal structure of space-time uniquely by the net of observable algebras of a quantum field theory. In this work some new aspects of causal compatibility are discussed. In particular it is shown that for a given lattice of algebras there exists up to conformal equivalence at most one Lorentzian manifold which is causally compatible. This enhances previous results, where special properties of the index set of the net are used.
